This Privacy Policy describes how kate (the mobile app and related services at iamkateai.com and associated subdomains) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information. By using kate, you agree to this policy. Please also read our Terms of Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account and profile. When you register or sign in, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, profile photo, language preferences, and identifiers from sign-in providers (such as Sign in with Apple or Google). If you use phone verification, we process your phone number and one-time codes sent via SMS.

Content you provide. Depending on the features you enable, we may process messages and chat history; AI persona settings and conversations; travel plans and saved places; diet and nutrition logs; language-learning progress; personal finance budgets you enter; music or media preferences; news reading activity; store names, products, banners, and orders; support requests; and other content you upload, publish, or create in kate.

Device and sensor data. With your permission, we may process photos and camera captures; audio recordings and voice input; contact names and phone numbers (to find or invite friends); precise or approximate location; push notification tokens; and wellness-oriented readings (such as heart-rate-style estimates) that may be stored on your device or synced when you use those features.

Browser and page analysis. If you use the in-app browser assistant, we process page text or URLs only when you explicitly ask kate to analyze, summarize, or check a page (for example, URL safety checks).

Technical data. We collect device type, operating system, app version, IP address, authentication and session tokens, crash or diagnostic logs, and usage information needed to operate, secure, and improve our services.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and personalize features you choose (travel, chat, AI assistants, stores, diet, language, finance, health, and others);
  • Authenticate your account and sync data across devices;
  • Send service-related messages, verification codes, and push notifications;
  • Process and display orders between store owners and buyers;
  • Generate AI responses from content you submit to those features;
  • Detect abuse, fraud, and security issues;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. AI Processing

When you use AI features (companions, chat, diet image analysis, legal or language assistants, page Q&A, avatar generation, and similar tools), we send the text, images, audio, or page content you submit to our servers and to AI service providers to generate responses. We process this data only to fulfill your request and to maintain safety and quality. Do not submit sensitive personal data you do not want processed by AI systems. AI outputs may be inaccurate; do not rely on them for medical, legal, or financial decisions.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share data with service providers only as needed to run kate, under contracts or terms that require them to protect your information. These include:

  • Google / Firebase — authentication, Firestore database, cloud storage, security rules, and related infrastructure;
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple (when you choose it);
  • Google — Google sign-in (when you choose it), Google Maps, and Google Web Risk for map and URL-safety features;
  • Twilio — SMS verification codes for phone login (when enabled);
  • AI providers — including Alibaba Cloud DashScope (Qwen), Google Gemini, and services accessed through our Vercel AI gateway or Google Cloud Run AI backend, only for features you invoke;
  • Stripe — payment processing for online stores when merchants connect their own Stripe account (we do not use Stripe to sell kate app subscriptions on iOS; merchants are responsible for their own checkout compliance);
  • Hosting — Vercel and related infrastructure that serves our website and APIs.

Other users and the public. If you publish a store, persona, chat, or site on a public subdomain (for example yourname.iamkateai.com), content you choose to publish may be visible to visitors. Store owners and buyers see order, delivery, contact, and payment-status information needed to complete transactions.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users and our systems, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

5. Device Permissions

The mobile app requests permissions only for features you use. Location supports maps, routing, travel, transport, and nearby recommendations. Camera supports profile or chat photos, barcode scanning, AI image features, and optional wellness measurements. Photo library access lets you pick or save images for profiles, chat, AI tools, stores, and exports. Microphone supports voice practice, voice input, and voice messages. Contacts help you find or invite friends when you choose that feature. Notifications deliver reminders and service updates.

You can deny or revoke permissions in device settings; some features may not work without them.

6. Health and Wellness Features

kate may offer wellness-oriented heart-rate, HRV, stress, oxygen-style, or blood-pressure-style estimates using your phone camera. These are for general wellness only, are not medical devices, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Consult a qualified clinician for medical questions.

7. Cookies and Website Data

Our website may use essential cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, security, and basic functionality. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on iamkateai.com. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

8. Data Retention and Security

We retain data while your account is active and as needed to provide services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Some data may remain on your device until you delete the app or clear it. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards; no online service is completely secure.

9. International Transfers

kate is operated from multiple regions. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live (including the United States and regions where our cloud and AI providers operate). We take steps designed to protect your data in line with applicable law.

10. Children

kate is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. Your Choices and Rights

You can update account details in the app. You can delete your account from Profile → Delete Account or follow the steps on our Account Deletion page. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise those rights.

Deletion removes or anonymizes data we are not required to keep. We may retain transaction, security, tax, legal, or fraud-prevention records where permitted by law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
